How GoWin Stays Free

An honest look at what keeps the lights on.

The two questions everyone asks

When something on the internet is free, it's fair to ask: are they selling my data, and how long until they put up a paywall? Both are good instincts. Here's the answer for GoWin.

We're not selling your data

The simplest version: we don't have anything to sell. The tools run in your browser, so the inputs you type into them never reach our servers. We don't have user accounts, so there's no profile to build. We use Google Analytics for aggregate page views โ€” the same way most sites do โ€” but that's pageview-level data, not "what you typed into the tip calculator."

If we ever wanted to monetise data, we'd have to start collecting it first. We haven't, and we don't plan to.

What it costs to run GoWin

The site is mostly static files served from a CDN. The tools execute on your device. There's no big database, no compute farm, no per-user infrastructure. Hosting costs are roughly the price of a coffee subscription, and they don't grow much when traffic grows.

That's the design. Cheap to run on purpose, so it can stay free without needing to monetise.

How we'll cover the bills long-term

A few honest possibilities:

  • Tasteful, non-tracking ads. Maybe โ€” but only the kind that don't follow you around or watch your inputs. If we ever try ads, they'd be relevant to the tool you're on and nothing more.
  • Optional paid extras. Down the line, we might offer something for teams or businesses โ€” a hosted version, branded invoice templates, that kind of thing. The free tools stay free.
  • Sponsorships. A company that makes sense for a specific tool might sponsor it. We'd label it clearly.

None of these change the deal: every tool that's free today stays free, with the same features, on the same URL.

Why this matters

You shouldn't have to wonder what the catch is. There's no catch. The site is small, the tools are cheap to run, and the model is sustainable without needing your data or your subscription.
